When Medivh died, his staff splintered into tiny pieces all over the world. They glimmered with his own essence, his arcane power pulsating through them. Anyone fortunate enough to find even one, was blessed with magical power's twenty times their normal limits. Imagine what you could do with ALL the pieces.

Well, as it happens, a man with no history, no family or parents, and went by the name of Aiur always was fascinated by magic. Even when he was little, he would visit the Mage Tower in Stormwind and sit with the Magi and listen to their studies. A man by the name of Khadgar was a head Magi of the Tower, and took an interest in Young Aiur's magical ingenuity. Having been trained in the arcane arts by Medivh himself, Khadgar decided it's time he passed on his knowledge. He saw an innocence in Aiur that no one else did, he knew that Aiur was ready to learn The Arts.

He approached Aiur one day, who was digging around in an Archaeic Tome, and he said to him, "Aiur, you take quite and interest in the magical arts, I feel that you will make a powerfull magi. Would you embark on a journey with me that will not only teach you magic, but empower you with knowledge and magical fortitude needed to become a Grand Wizard?". Immediately Aiur's eyes bulged, as if he had been stabbed in the heart with a giant syringe of happiness. He became excited and he said, "Of course, I would love to learn from you.".

They packed but one bag, a satchel 3 day's worth of bread and drink, and left Stormwind. For that matter, Civilization all together. They lived off the land, they slept in the grassy meadows of the Hillsbrad Foothills. They stayed inside the gloomy caverns of Dustwallow Marsh.

Three years passed, and their journey had led them to the Eastern Plaguelands. Their, they met the righteous men of Light's Chapel, who explained to them that a magical abomination was in the works at the floating fortress, Naxxramas. They immediately started to disect every piece of magic around the fortress. They learned how it worked, they learned how it was fastened together, they even discovered what made it float. They learned that many undead gruesome things were under the control of an evil undead wizard, Kel'Thuzad.

"This is an abomination to all things living, we must slay it.", said Khadgar to his apprentice, who by this time had evolved so far in the arcane arts, that he was almost as powerfull as the master himself. "Patience, we must carefully fortify our own magical barriers and make ourselves as strong as the fortress itself, if we are to be accepted inside." So they sat and meditated, compressing their own magical power into every essence of their being. The process took weeks, but eventually they were ready to ascend to the floating fortress, and try to put an end to the dark wizard's plans.

They indeed did ascend, they flew to the very gate of the castle itself. Their weeks of meditation paid off, for they were in tune with the fortress's magic essence, it was like they were invisible to the undead army that lay in wait. They walked through the many halls, ever intrigued by what they saw. They saw grotesque monster's being spat out from vat's of plasma and ooze. They truly were abominable, to think such life existed, created life, without souls. Empty hollow shells that could be commanded for whatever their master's purpose was, truly frightened Aiur's entire being.

After many hours of wandering, they had found Kel'Thuzud's throne room. He had been watching them with his scrying eyes their whole journey inside his magical fortress. "Greetings travelers, I see you have phased inside unnoticed to my undead minions. But, I have been watching your every footstep, ever since you arrived in the Eastern Plaguelands weeks ago. I sensed your prowess in the arts, your magical power is far beyond what any mortal can accomplish. But alas, your travels here are in vein, for I have a wonderfull PET I would love for you to meet. Meet Saphiron, my beautifull dragon of ice."

At that moment a beautifull saphire dragon burst the floor, he began to fly around the room, his icy wind freezing the walls of the room. The two mages let lose their stored power. They both chanted some archaic verses and simultaneously had combined their essences and fired an astonishingly powerfull blast of arcane energy at the dragon, reducing it to a mere saphire, which housed its essence and soul.

Drained, they began to drink and tap into the powers of their artifacts. But Kel'Thuzad was way ahead of them, already beginning to cast giant bolts of ice at the pair. They hopped around the room so fast, it was like they were "blinking" and spells were flying around the room. It was a frenzy of ice, fire, and many arcane blasts. The forces of the magic had weakened the fortress so much, it began to let it's magic crystals fly lose, where they then landed all over the world of Azeroth. Legions upon legions of undead began to roam free on Azeroth. But their fight ensued, hoping they could end it all if they took out the source.

The battle lasted days, countless hours their fight with the undead wizard progressed, as they could tell from his magic power's slowly waining. "Fools! Do you honestly think you can defeat me!", Kel'Thuzad let lose a tremendous cry of power. "I have been slowly wittling down your powers, for I have a most desireable weapon. You see, I have been collected the fragments of Atiesh, Medivh's great and powerfull god appointed staff. It is incomplete, for I am missing one piece, the very head itself. But no matter, it's power's shall already increase my power one thousand fold, and their is nothing you can do to stop me." Kel'Thuzad levitated up towards the cieling, reaching through a barrier he had created, and from it pulled out the incomplete staff, Atiesh. Magical power coursed through his undead body, granting him a previously untapped resource of mana and power. He let lose a powerfull blast of arcane light, that encompassed the entire room.

He had seen victory, he had defeated his foes.

... Or so he thought. Seconds later the flash began to grow smaller, looking as if a vacuum was pulling it in. A giant beam of energy was being sucked into Aiur's body, he had never felt anything like it in his whole life. Kel'Thuzad grew angry, casting giant balls of ice at him, but Aiur threw what little he had left at them, barely warding them off. "Khad-... gar... Leave.. while you... can! I will hold-... him off... as long as.. my power allows me."

Khadgar understood his sacrifice and created a magical portal to to just outside the walls of the fortress. He shed a single tear, which grew into an illustrous plant known as "The Khadgar Whisker". He had lost his apprentice.

Aiur was kneeling, trying to force back an blast of energy with his own, but his power's were weakening. The force from the ball was so strong, he began to slide back on the floor, leaving indentations and finally cracks inside the base of the floor. "I cannot defeat you wizard, but I will protect this land from you." Thoughts raced through Aiur's head, wishing he could only pull more power out of himself. Suddenly he began to grow stronger and stronger, forcing back Kel'thuzad's magic. "What power is this! A power greater than Atiesh? Impossible!". The moment after his last word left his mouth, a arcane form came bursting from Aiur, it was a small black raven, that glowed with a flourescent green energy. It flew to the staff, and perched itself on it. It spoke, "Atiesh is complete, return now awaited piece, your destiny is clear." The staff disintegrated, appearing into Aiur's hands, completed. The head of the staff was positioned upon it. Aiur spoke as if speaking for another being, "I have found my lost piece, you cannot defeat him now dark one. He holds more power than you ever can." With those words being spoke, A combination of fire, ice , and arcane magic aura's swirled around Aiur. They combined their powers into a tiny ball no bigger than a golf ball, and he threw it at Kel'thuzad. The force of the impact was so strong, a blast of energy flew disentegrated the undead dark master, and blew a hole through the side of the fortress.

Khadgar saw this gigantic beam of light and ice, and believed it to be the end of his apprentice. He went back to Stormwind, hurt and wounded. He had failed to protect his student, his apprentice, his "son". He was so disheartened he opened a magical rift and entered it, where it lead him to Draenor, the home world of the Draenei, where he stayed and helped the Drainei ward off the legion, having had experiance with them before.

Aiur had met himself, Aetiesh, and realised why he had no family. He was the final piece to the staff, the incarnation of Medivh's power. He was to protect Azeroth, even in Medivh's absence. He was to be the next Guardian of Azeroth.
